Since enrolling for assistance from the atWork Australia team in Launceston, Tasmania, Kiefer has been on a remarkable journey, one that sees him a brand-new person.
At the time of entering the Launceston office as a Disability Employment Services client, 26-year-old Kiefer was shy and reserved.
He found it difficult to open up to new people, so sharing his story with Job Coach, Shannon, in his initial appointment was difficult. But he pushed through and shared some details about himself and his journey to employment, so far.
In this appointment he was able to share basic details about himself, like how he is autistic and lives with an intellectual disability. More information on himself and his employment journey so far were shared in coming appointments, as his nerves eased.
All this information allowed Shannon to create a tailored job plan that was catered to him, and his needs, wants and goals pertaining to employment.
At one of his scheduled appointments, he shared that he had recently visited a local car dealership as he was having issues with his car. Whilst at the dealership, he noticed that they had a job opening and that this was something that he would like to apply for.
Shannon wasted no time and got into contact with the dealership and had a chat about the position and the value that they would have by having Kiefer on their team.
After several conversations with both the dealership and Kiefer, it was organised that Kiefer would begin working a couple days a week as an informal trial period.
Whilst working, Kiefer continued to work on obtaining his provisional licence. Which he later achieved because of all his hard work.
After several weeks, the employer was so impressed with him that his working hours increased to full-time!
Shannon and the broader Launceston team are so happy for Kiefer and his remarkable progress to achieve his goals. Kiefer got to love the company of the team so much, that he still regularly attends the office within his lunch breaks to chat.
