Kristy is a ParentsNext client at atWork Australia’s Mandurah office in Western Australia. Kristy is a single mother to three children and lives with a severe mental health condition. She came to atWork Australia for support to update her skills and to find employment, as her qualifications were outdated.
When Kristy first met her Job Coach, Anne, she was lacking self-confidence and motivation. Anne started by building a relationship with Kristy, offering guidance and motivation; encouraging open communication and regular appointments to provide extra support.
Kristy indicated that she would benefit from gaining extra skills to support her in the return to the workplace. So, Anne referred Kristy to atWork Australia’s The Best Version of Me program, where she could work on her employability skill, gain resources on general health and wellbeing, self-confidence and motivation.
Upon completion of the program, Kristy had developed a resume, built her self-confidence and gained the courage to enroll in a Certificate III in Community Services. This is a great steppingstone to work towards achieving her career goal of working in mental health.
Kristy said at first that she was a bit hesitant about The Best Version of Me program but has since said the program gave her the skills, abilities and confidence to apply for her current employment as a cleaner.
Anne said, “Kristy has come leaps and bounds from her commencement with ParentsNext in January 2022. She has not allowed her mental health barriers to restrict her from gaining employment.”
Kristy is very appreciative of the support she received from Anne. Kristy said, “Anne was very supportive and a great listener. After completing my training, I felt really good, I feel a lot more confident about my life and what I can achieve.’’
