Kyle has had much adversity in his life and at 45, had been unemployed since 2016.
Kyle lives with Asperger’s syndrome and a mental health condition and was also being treated for drug and alcohol dependence when he approached the Moorooka office of atWork Australia at the start of 2019. He was seeking support in finding good work and was introduced to Job Coach, Sarah.
Sarah could see Kyle was very unsure of where he wanted to go with regard to his career, as he didn’t have any formal qualifications, he had never had an official interview for employment and he was overcome with anxiety if an interview opportunity arose.
Throughout their discussions together, Sarah discovered Kyle was quite passionate about working with people with disability and discussed with him his options in this area.
By July 2019, Kyle was enrolled into a Certificate III in Individual Support – Disabilities which he successfully completed.
This gave Kyle the qualifications and the confidence to find work he was excited about.
In February 2020, Sarah found a position suitable for Kyle with a registered NDIS services provider. They were looking for someone who could relate well to their clients and understand their disability.
Sarah introduced Kyle to the NDIS provider and they stated, “Kyle is the perfect fit for our team and clients, he is a beautiful souled person and we really can’t wait to see where he goes within our organisation.”
Kyle cried with happiness and was ‘over the moon’ when Sarah told him he had the job.
“I cannot wipe the smile off my face, my first shift and my second shift were so rewarding. I now have something to wake up to every day, to look forward to,” Kyle says
Sarah was incredibly impressed with all that Kyle achieved after working on his mental health condition.
“I have watched Kyle grow as a person and really conquer his goals, his journey is by far one I will forever remember,” she says.
And the last word from Kyle, “I will be forever grateful for all of the hard work and dedication that Sarah has given to me as a Job Coach. She never saw me as just a number, she saw me as a person.”
