Disability Employment Services client, Trevor, lands his dream job with the help of the atWork Australia Fortitude Valley, Queensland.
Trevor, aged 55, has always dreamed of working within security but due to his mental health, he never believed he could achieve this goal. That is, until he met with Job Coach, Mykie, in the Fortitude Valley atWork Australia office.
Trevor had a difficult past and believed that no one would hire him, due to his living situation and employment history. Trevor continuously felt that he was in a hole and could not get out, or even see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mykie assured him this was not the case and proved to him that throughout their time together.
Trevor had a negative outlook on employment services and the benefits that they can provide, but quickly learnt how valuable they are.
Mykie and the team at atWork Australia Fortitude Valley worked with Trevor, throughout their time together. Mykie provided continuous encouragement, motivation to keep going and assistance in creating resumes and cover letters. The team were also able to support Trevor financially to enroll in a security course to get him one step closer to working in the industry.
Trevor attended several job coaching sessions within the office, where he would work on job ready skills and how to perfect the interview process, ensuring that he felt confident.
Once Trevor gained his confidence within the interview processes, Mykie scheduled Trevor to a session with Suited to Success; allowing him to look and feel great for potential interviews.
Mykie worked on advocating for Trevor to potential employers, whilst Trevor was completing his security course.
Whenever Trevor was feeling doubtful, Mykie reminded him that “if we just keep moving forward, no matter how fast or slow, forward is forward. We will get there; it will seem tough but atWork Australia are here to support you at all stages of the journey”.
As a result of Mykie’s encouragement and motivational words, Trevor continued his employment journey. In time, Trevor landed his dream job within security.
Trevor was highly emotional and holding back tears when Mykie broke the great news to him. This was the moment he was dreaming for years.
Trevor was so appreciative for all the hard work, communication, support, encouragement and motivation. He thanked the atWork Australia team for not giving up on him. Trevor explained that he now feels like he can start dreaming and travelling.
