Long-term unemployed Workforce Australia client, Lixia, entered the Corrimal, NSW atWork Australia office with aspirations of working in hospitality.
Upon entering the office, she had minimal confidence and doubted herself frequently when looking for work, as she does not speak English fluently.
Lixia was finding it difficult to find a position that was flexible and catered to her being the primary carer for her children. She was determined to find a position that not only fit in with school hours but also aligned with her passion for cooking.
Within her initial appointment with Job Coach, Hollie, Lixia outlined what she was looking for in a potential employer, as well as her previous employment history. They also discussed what sustainable work would look like.
Hollie could see how passionate Lixia was about hospitality and suggested to Lixia that she enroll in a Certificate lll In Commercial Cookery.
Hollie and the Corrimal team assisted Lixia in enrolling in this certificate and guided her throughout the duration of the course.
Whilst completing this certificate, Lixia continued to attend her progress appointments, where Hollie worked with her to boost her confidence.
Upon Lixia completing her certificate, Hollie booked Lixia to see one of atWork Australia’s Employment Engagement Consultants to find her the perfect position. Lixia was very excited for this next step in her employment journey.
Her Employment Engagement Consultant found the perfect position for her as a Kitchen Hand/Cook. This position also worked with Lixia’s busy schedule, so she booked in a trial at the workplace and Lixia attended that same day.
After her trial shift, Lixia was offered the position.
Lixia is thrilled to be working her dream job. She is very grateful and thankful for all of the work that the atWork Australia Corrimal team did.
