Employed before the Covid-19 lockdown, Majed (59) faced challenges after being suddenly unemployed due to the lockdown. He is very hard working and was determined to secure a job.
Majed experienced barriers such as difficulties in communication as English is his second language, trauma, cross- cultural issues, chronic pain, a mental health condition, social isolation and physical limitations. The Department of Human Services staff greatly assisted Majed in determining his eligibility for Disability Employment Services by completing Majed’s assessment on a weekend so he can commence. Majed reached out to atWork Australia in Chester Hill. Here, he met Job Coach Rasha who assisted him with his barriers and finding a suitable job for him during the lockdown.
Rasha assisted Majed in his job search, completing applications, basic computer skills, interview skills and referring him to different employment opportunities. Rasha worked very hard in translating application questions into Arabic for Majed. She was able to secure a position as a Cleaning Hygiene Operator for Majed.

Unfortunately, Majed tested positive for Covid-19 after he secured the job and Rasha regularly checked in with him during his 20 days in isolation. Majed was able to return to his job and is happy working.
