Two years prior to commencing with atWork Australia at the Margate office in Queensland, Lucinda experienced a major health setback. She suffered a severe asthmatic attack that left her in a coma for two weeks. It resulted in nerve damage to her leg and a long absence from employment.
Yet despite, these setbacks, her Disability Employment Services (DES) Job Coach Tammy found a dedicated individual unwilling to give up, as she knew employment was the key to her surviving.
Lucinda started a Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) with the aim to return to an administration role within healthcare. Tammy and Lucinda also worked on the job application process by updating her resume and tailoring cover letters to suit each job role.
Together they searched for a part-time role, with little success, until Tammy had a chance meeting with Breakaway Inc, a community organisation supporting people with disabilities. Lucinda was offered a role as a Disability Support Worker.
“I can’t even put into words how happy I was, to finally make that call to Lucinda,” said Tammy. “Lucinda is such a driven, go-getter who despite what she’s been through will never give up.”
Lucinda was delighted to be able to return to her chosen field and attributes her success to Tammy’s support.
“Tammy’s help with updating my resume and other documents, was paramount to my employment success,” says Lucinda.
“My journey has not been easy, but with the support of Tammy and the atWork Australia team, I am now working.”
