Mark expressed that it took a lot of courage for him to attend his initial appointment. However, after attending atWork Australia’s Wanneroo, WA, office to seek support from the Disability Employment Services team, and meeting his Job Coach, Lily, Mark admits it has now become a highlight of his fortnight.
Mark came to atWork Australia as he knew he needed to make a change in his career path. However, he was unsure how to go about it. Mark lives with multiple physical and mental health conditions that have been impacting on his ability to secure suitable employment.
When Mark met his Job Coach, Lily, they began developing a plan for how atWork Australia could support Mark and prepare him for employment. Due to Mark’s low self-esteem and mood disorder, Lily thought Mark would benefit from atWork Australia’s Allied Health Services. This would allow Mark to receive free counselling sessions. Mark has not been willing to try counselling in the past, but he felt supported by his Job Coach, Lily, so he agreed to give it a go. After Mark’s first session, he was surprised by the benefits he had gained and continues to engage regularly.
Mark has come such a long way since coming to atWork Australia, the counselling sessions have had a significant impact on his wellbeing. Mark said, “I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I now feel capable to take on more. I am now considering enrolling in a business course.”
Mark’s Job Coach, Lily, said, “Mark has come a long way, he is preparing to increase his job searches and he is more optimistic about his future.”
Throughout the counselling sessions Mark has learned healthier coping mechanisms to help manage his stress and has better control of his emotions. Mark feels he has clicked back into work mode, he is ready to start studying and prepared to start work in a new industry.
