Disability Employment Services client, Scott, is thankful for the atWork Australia team in Roxburgh Park, Victoria, for the assistance he has received in finding his passion – Traffic Control.
In 2022, Scott entered the atWork Australia office feeling unmotivated. He was of the impression that he could never work and stated this to Job Coach, Cindy, in their first appointment together.
After getting to know Scott, Cindy learnt that COVID put him out of his forklift driving position. During this time off, his medical conditions worsened. This was the last position he has had. Together, they brainstormed positions that he would enjoy and that would suit his health conditions.
With a lot of persuasion, mentoring and preparation, his confidence was raised. He was showing signs of wanting to enter the workforce and cancel his Disability Support Pension that was currently underway. This was the turning point for Scott.
After cancelling his pension, Cindy and Scott prepared the perfect resume and began practicing interview techniques for any upcoming interviews.
Within one of his appointments, the pair discussed traffic control and the flexibility this would provide to Scott. They both agreed that this industry would be perfect for him, whilst also being something that he would enjoy. So, he was referred to a traffic controller course.
Cindy supported him throughout the duration of this course and financially supported him with any course related items he needed. She states, “Scott passed the course with flying colours. He was overjoyed.”
After securing employment, Scott has mentioned he has not looked back. When thinking of the job, he said, “It is the right job for me. It suits my medical condition and is very flexible”.
With simultaneous team efforts by InWork Support Coach, Wafaa, and Cindy, Scott successfully completed six months in the job.
