Vivian migrated to Australia with her family in 2019 as a refugee from Iraq. Vivian has dealt with many adversities and challenges, however, has maintained her goal of finding employment to help provide for her family.
Having completed a Bachelor of Physics in Iraq, Vivian has been unemployed since arriving in Australia due to her limited English skills, as well as some physical barriers stemming from the health conditions she lives with. Vivian has also found it difficult to juggle employment with her family life and four children.
Vivian participated in an English course to improve her language, however, her lack of work experience in Australia and language barriers made it difficult to progress her job search on her own.
Vivian reached out to atWork Australia and was connected with her Job Coach, Blaser. After only a few meetings, Blaser could see how motivated Vivian was to find employment. They worked together on interview preparation and how Vivian can highlight her strengths to improve her confidence.
Blaser was notified of an opportunity with Marley Spoon as a Production Assistant and immediately thought of Vivian. They prepared together for the interview and within a few days after the interview, Vivian had been offered the job.
Vivian was quite surprised at how quickly she got the job. She made a point of leaving a Google Review showing how happy she was with the tailored service she received from Blaser and atWork Australia.
To ensure Vivian’s success at Marley Spoon, Blaser organised work shoes and clothing before she started and lined up Post Placement Support. Overall, Vivian’s transition to work has been smooth thanks to the support from her Job Coach, the employer and her eagerness to find work.
Marley Spoon are a leading provider of delivered self-cook food boxes. Marley Spoon implemented a refugee/immigrant program that promoted roles specifically for people like Vivian. This initiative means that Vivian and her colleagues are supported in the work environment to learn and succeed. They do not see Vivian’s barriers and are able to accommodate her requirements, allowing her to balance her family life.
Vivian was very joyful and happy to find employment. She had been looking for work for over two years. When she heard that she was successful with Marley Spoon she was excited, relieved and keen to start. Vivian loves the work she is doing.
Vivian often visits Blaser to catch up on how she is going. Vivian said, “thank you to atWork Australia and Blaser for always helping me when I needed it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to change my life.”
