Workforce Australia client, Michael, commenced his employment journey with atWork Australia in July 2022. At this time, he was studying a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy).
In his initial consultation with his Job Coach, Helen, at the Wanneroo office, he was very shy and softly spoken. He disclosed that he had very low self-esteem and had recently received an ADHD diagnosis.
It was in his next appointment that Michael let Helen know that he deferred his studies due to his mental health. Helen referred him to our in-house Wellness Services to work on his mental health.
During this time, Helen and Michael worked on creating a tailored job plan to get him where he wants to be. This plan focused on how he could achieve his goals sustainably with his mental health.
Based on this plan, the pair created a resume that would appeal to employers. This resume highlighted his employment history and all the skills he had obtained on the way.
Helen also provided Michael with financial assistance via bus passes and driving lessons. This ensured that he could travel safely.
With every appointment, Michael’s self confidence grew. Once he was ready, Helen began looking for suitable positions.
The Jobs Board at the Wanneroo office highlighted a vacant part-time call centre position with a local employer partner. Michael was interested in this position, so, Helen submitted his resume on his behalf.
After a very successful interview with the employer, Michael was offered the position. He was thrilled.
