Even with the obstacle of COVID-19, Kerrie was determined to study her way back into work through atWork Australia.

After many months of unsuccessfully applying for a variety of positions in late 2019, Kerrie, who is hearing impaired and lives with a mental health condition, approached the Shepparton office of atWork Australia.

Kerrie knew she needed guidance and assistance in her search for meaningful work and it was there she met Job Coach, Sharna.

Sharna could see Kerrie was excited to be with atWork Australia and that she was extremely keen to find work, so together they looked at, and refreshed, Kerrie’s résumé.

With the refined résumé in-hand, Sharna helped Kerrie look for jobs that were suitable to her skill set, however, Kerrie didn’t have any luck gaining employment and mentioned to Sharna that she felt she was lacking purpose.

On hearing how Kerrie was feeling, Sharna thought that education would be a great option for Kerrie to enable her to learn new skills she could add to her résumé and boost her confidence.

Sharna discussed this idea with Kerrie and after deciding on a Certificate III in Retail, she immediately saw a change in Kerrie’s outlook, noticing she quickly became upbeat and more positive about her future.

atWork Australia provided Kerrie with everything she needed to complete her online course, including the essentials of a laptop and mouse. Sharna continued to assist Kerrie throughout the course.

Kerrie needed to complete job placement as part of her course and she did this with a local office supply business, she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

After placement, Sharna approached the company and was able to secure Kerrie permanent work.

Kerrie has now been working ongoing and has had consistent hours since the end of March.

“Kerrie was extremely happy and delighted that the path she had set herself on was complete,” says Sharna.

Kerrie is incredibly grateful to Sharna and atWork Australia for helping her firstly find and then complete her chosen path back into work.

atWork Australia never gave up on me and supported me the whole way,” Kerrie says.

Kerrie will continue to receive support from Sharna and the team at atWork Australia for as long as she feels she needs it.
