Quote reads "Noel was very thankful for the assistance from atWork Australia and helping him find the job. He is very excited to start 2024 off employed"

During Noel’s first appointment with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Casino, NSW, he shared he was interested in support work.

When he realised how expensive it could be to enter the industry, along with the level of paperwork required, he was grateful to be supported by atWork Australia.

To begin with, the team supported Noel to obtain his police check, along with updating his resume. While it took some time to get the police check finalised due to illness and caring responsibilities, Noel’s atWork Australia team continued to support him, including providing details for allied health support, should he need it.

The moment his police check was finalised, local Employer Engagement Consultant, Monika, had connected Noel with a local support work employer.

“The interview was a really positive experience. I’m excited to start work,” said Noel.

To start the new role, Noel also needed a Working with Children Check, an NDIS screen check and a First Aid Certificate. atWork Australia supported Noel financially to obtain these, including supporting him with fuel costs to attend the First Aid training.

The onboarding process involved more paperwork again, but Noel’s Job Coach, Lena, was on hand to make sure he had all the right support to complete everything necessary. The atWork Australia team also connected with the employer to make sure Noel was on track.

With Noel’s start date approaching, the team then supported Noel to be work-ready. Supporting him to purchase appropriate work clothing, personal protective equipment, and orthopedic shoes since he would be on his feet most of the day.

“Noel was very thankful for the assistance from atWork Australia and helping him find the job. He is very excited to start 2024 off employed, said Lena.

Noel’s new employer then advised the atWork Australia team that Noel could gain additional hours by supporting their clients to attend medical appointments, for example.

To do this, Noel required comprehensive insurance for his car, which the atWork Australia team was also able to support him with.

Now, Noel will have the financial independence to pay for his insurance going forward.
