“Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities” is what atWork Australia Job Coach Danielle shares with her client Pam. Pam has recently returned to work after a back injury she sustained six years ago. She also lives with a mental health condition.
For Pam, it has been a long road to her dream role but with the help and ongoing support from the atWork Australia team in Pakenham, Victoria, she is now working as an NDIS Support Worker, working with young people.
Job Coach Danielle set Pam up with work as an Administration Assistant and partnered her with Post Placement Support Consultant Lauren whose role is to support clients as they start work.
While Pam was happy to be in employment, she quickly discovered the administration role was affecting her mental health and called Lauren for support. Together Lauren and Danielle worked to move Pam urgently into another role.
“We gave Pam support and reassurance we were working towards securing her a different position. It’s important to us to connect people and business so both can thrive, so if it’s not a good fit, especially for your mental health, then we work to improve that,” said Lauren.
“We had a chat with Pam and understood she was passionate about working as a support worker and was motivated to overcome her challenges, so together we worked towards her goal.”
The team helped Pam with fuel costs, her police and NDIS checks and supported her with work clothing. They approached a potential employer and advocated for Pam, securing her a role in support work.
Pam was overcome with relief and joy at the prospect of leaving her current employer and starting her dream job back in the industry she is passionate about.
