Christopher Atkins came to atWork Australia’s jobactive team in Perth as a young jobseeker in 2019. His progress shows how well the PaTH internship program can be used to help job seekers upskill and find employment.

When Christopher first came to atWork Australia, our reverse marketers placed him into a 4-week internship role as a car washer. Then, in 2020 he moved into a role as a scratcher/painter with TL Engineering. At the time, Christopher had limited work history but performed well and Christopher was then offered an apprenticeship with TL Engineering in March 2021.  TL Engineering is a medium-to-large sized vehicle body builder business and has employed several jobseekers from atWork Australia.

Christopher’s manager reports being very happy with his progress since he first commenced and it is great to see Christopher is very happy working at TL Engineering.

Equally exciting is that Christopher sees his employer as a long-term employer, with the scope to move up and into other positions after completing the apprenticeship with Christopher saying he is also keen to learn welding with TL Engineering after his apprenticeship is completed.

PaTH Internships are short placements in the workplace that give young people an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to a potential employer, develop vocational skills, and improve their employment prospects. At the same time, employers have the opportunity to trial young job seekers in a structured work experience placement, to see if they are the right fit for their business.

Christopher had been using public transport in the past to get to work, however, he just recently purchased his own car and is over the moon to have his own set of wheels.

Christopher can be very proud of how far he’s come since our reverse marketers first placed him into the car washer position and shows how life-changing the PaTH program can be by offering training and employment opportunities to young job seekers.
