Prabash entered the atWork Australia office in Miller, NSW, looking for friendly, professional, tailored support – and that is just what he received.
Prabash is talented at what he does; maintenance. He has spent 12 years of his life as a maintenance officer within a variety of NSW hospitals. Unfortunately, he had to take a pause on his working life due to his health condition, Crohn’s disease.
After spending the past two years focusing on his health, Prabash was looking to re-enter the workforce, so he reached out to the Disability Employment Services team in Miller.
In his initial consultation, he met with his Job Coach, Maggie. The pair got to know one another and discussed Prabash’s goals, values and employment history. From this, they were able to create a tailored job plan to get him back into work.
This job plan outlined ways in which he could re-enter the maintenance industry, whilst also remaining focused on his health.
Once they had their plan outlined, Maggie got straight to work. She spoke with several local employers regarding maintenance positions.
One of the employers she spoke with was a local shopping centre. This centre had a current opening for a maintenance officer, so Maggie put him forward for this position.
Prabash was later successful in obtaining this role under self-employment. This meant that he was able to do what he loves, whilst working around his health needs.
Within this next stage of his employment journey, Maggie and the local Miller team continued to work with him with his self-employment related activities, like invoicing.
After working in this position for several weeks, he is greatly enjoying his position and the flexibility that self-employment has on his life.
