59-year-old Raymond joined the Disability Employment Services program as he was struggling to find suitable work off the back of his Cancer diagnosis.
As a result of this diagnosis, and subsequent treatments, Raymond is faced with lethargy and chronic fatigue. This was something he was concerned with when it came to work. When these moments of doubt clouded his thoughts, Nick would assure him that the perfect position was out there for him, and that he would not stop looking until it was found.
After several discussions around Raymond’s interests, skills, and employment history in coming appointments, he was enrolled in a Certificate III in Individual Support after expressing a keen interest in the course.
Whilst completing his certificate, Raymond continued to attend the office for his scheduled appointments, but also used it as an opportunity to study in a quiet space.
“Raymond would attend the Laverton office regularly to utilise the computers, and the quiet space. It also enabled us to check in on his progress, whilst also keeping him motivated.” Said Nick.
“Attending the office also had a positive effect on his physical and mental health too. He was riding his bike into the office which helped address his chronic fatigue whilst also remaining social.”
Once Raymond was ready to take the next steps, Nick and the broader team in Laverton, VIC connected with local employers for suitable positions. Within no time he was offered a part-time position.
