Ropati, 53, is very family-orientated, it’s part of his Samoan culture. Being able to contribute to his household is something he takes great pride in.
Ropati comes from a non-English speaking background and lives with partial blindness. His low vision also means he needs a family member to drive him to and from work.
When he first started working with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services Job Coach, Meagan, he was unsure what job opportunities would be available to him.
His dream was to be in full-time employment, with a supportive and understanding employer.
Meagan worked with the wider atWork Australia team, to find him the perfect employer, and in the meantime, Ropati attended pre-employment training with Meagan to learn interview skills, resume building, and how to market himself to employers.
atWork Australia has a long-standing relationship with local inclusive employer A&B Automotive, who interviewed Ropati for a general factory hand role.
He successfully landed the role, and the atWork Australia team supported Ropati by purchasing magnifying sheets to help him succeed in his new role.
“Ropati was shy when he first started with atWork Australia. But he is starting to blossom at work, enjoying the company of his co-workers and feeling confident in providing for his family,” said Ropati’s In-Work Support Coach, Lauren.
“Ropati loves when we come to visit him on site every fortnight. He shows me what he is achieving, and the way he is adapting the role, together with the owner, to fit within his ability.”
The team at A&B Automotive think Ropati is the perfect addition to their team.
“Ropati has been an amazing addition to our team. He is always on time, and ready to assist the team in any way he can. He is a hardworking man, and I am happy to see how quickly he has made friends here. We look forward to seeing what he achieves in the future,” said Bill from A&B Automotive.
