17-year-old, Disability Employment Services client, Sarah has a limited work history.
Living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and a chronic pain condition, Sarah came to atWork Australia for additional support to find employment.
An early school leaver, Sarah has low literacy and numeracy skills, but wanted support to find a career she could thrive in.
She started working with Job Coach, Tanjah, at the East Nowra atWork Australia office.
As Tanjah got to know Sarah, she shared that she had been contacted by a NDIS supported organisation who offer employment for people living with disability.
Sarah was very interested in a role they had available in their café, but the organisation was in a different town to Sarah, and she was unable to afford the financial costs of moving.
To begin with the team looked for local opportunities that might align with Sarah’s goals, however she had her mind set on the role in the café.
Understanding Sarah, and her barriers to employment, the atWork Australia team understood Sarah’s desire to work here, and believed it was a great stepping stone for her working career.
With the support of Sarah’s family, the atWork Australia team got to work to see how they could support Sarah to relocate for this opportunity. Soon after, Sarah made the move approx. 750km to Inverell for her new job.
“Sarah is really enjoying her new job and new start. She has stepped out of her comfort zone to find employment she enjoys,” said Job Coach Tanjah.
“Thanks to atWork Australia, my daughter was able to obtain permanent fulfilling employment outside of her local area,” said Sarah’s mother, Roni.
“She was able access relocation assistance, which helped her secure accommodation and settle into her new community, where she thoroughly enjoys her new job.”
