Krystal Martin accessed the ParentsNext program through the Cannington branch of atWork Australia in 2020, which resulted in a fantastic outcome for both her and her family.

Krystal had previously had qualifications and experience in the aged care sector; however she was reluctant to return to that industry as the shift work requirements would be difficult for her to care for her young family.

atWork Australia’s ParentsNext Support Consultant recommended that Krystal complete her Certificate 111 in Business online via ALFFIE. This was in preparation for Krystal to seek alternative employment in administration roles that did not require shift work.

By demonstrating that she was upgrading her skills through completing the course, Krystal was offered employment one day a week as an Administration Assistant. This suited her family needs perfectly and she accepted the role whilst continuing to finish her online course.

Her ParentsNext Support Consultant assisted Krystal with new work attire, which further boosted her confidence to complete her newly found role.

Krystal said that ‘I am grateful for the support and assistance provided to me, and I would recommend the ParentsNext program to other parents in similar situations. The program really lifted my confidence and increased my ability to support my family moving forward’.

ParentsNext is a service funded by the Federal Government, which is aimed at helping eligible parents of children aged six months to 5 years plan and prepare for employment by the time their children start school.  atWork Australia initially were awarded a ParentsNext contract in July 2018 to provide specialist pre-employment services in Perth’s south until 30 June 2021. This service provision has now been extended until June 2024.
