Now a part of atWork Australia’s ongoing support program, Collette continues to use her own personal experience and skills to help others as a Support Worker.

From Mollymook, NSW, Collette, 50, joined atWork Australia and connected with Job Coach, Donna. Collette had high levels of anxiety and depression, along with ischemic heart disease and an unstable knee.

Collette was a shy and anxious person who struggled with self-esteem and confidence; she was unsure of her capabilities. However, Donna gave Collette the support she needed, allowing her to build her confidence and flourish.

Collette had completed Year 10, a hospitality course, Certificate II Skills for Work and Training, and a Certificate III for Individual Support in Aged Care & Disability. Armed with a plethora of training under her belt, Collette had the tools and skills required for finding employment. Donna presented two positions to Collette; she was able to take on both in a part-time capacity for each. Collette has now been employed by both organisations for two years. Job Coach, Donna, says “Collette has grown wonderfully in these roles and now supports some of my other clients”.

To build Collette’s confidence, Donna always gave her praise for the work she was doing and gave her the hope and encouragement she needed to know that she would make a great Support Worker. Collette has a great amount of empathy and loved helping the young teens.

Collette’s journey has been positive; she has overcome obstacles to achieve her goals. Although nervous to know she had received the job offers, she was excited. Being employed would allow her to support her family in more ways.

Collette continues to be supported by Donna, often popping into the office to say hello or ask for advice. Donna said, “Collette visits the office and we laugh together; it’s great to see how far she has come, she wouldn’t have had the confidence to do this in the beginning had she not had the support”.

Collette says she “is saving for a surgery which will help her knee and back pain significantly”.

Every year, atWork Australia helps thousands of clients like Collette expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
