With the help of atWork Australia, Thomas has secured his first job and is now working for a local Accounting firm and has a bright career in Accounting ahead of him.
Thomas, who has a learning disability and requires support with some social skills, approached atWork Australia’s Bairnsdale office for help transitioning from studying Accounting into paid employment.
Thomas was matched with Disability Employment Services (DES) local Job Coach Samantha, and together they began working out a plan for finding meaningful and lasting employment.
Samantha’s tailored support helped Thomas to identify the exact type of job role he wanted to pursue, and how to go about getting that role.
As Thomas had never worked before, Samantha organised work experience for a 4-week period at both Pollard Accounting and a local golf club.
When Thomas’s work experience at Pollard Accounting was coming to an end, Samantha organised a meeting with David from Pollard Accounting to thank him for Thomas’s opportunity.
Instead of ending the work experience, David was so impressed with Thomas’s skill and dedication that he offered Thomas 8 hours a week as a Trainee Accountant.
Both Samantha and Thomas were thankful for the opportunity and David’s investment into Thomas’ future.
Thomas has settled extremely well into his new job role, and even has his own office, which he was very excited about!
Samantha knows Thomas will have a strong career in Accounting and looks forward to supporting him every step of the way.
