Single mother, Samantha, from Tamworth, came to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team with many things on her plate.
She was juggling being a single parent, her finances, and living in a rural area.
atWork Australia financially supported Samantha to complete some car repairs, ensuring she had transport. With her car troubles sorted, she was able to focus on her employment goals.
Together with the atWork Australia team, Samantha spoke about her goals, and wanted to look into hospitality or retail, as she felt the flexible hours would suit her needs.
While the team started looking into employers who would be the right fit for Samantha, she started doing some short courses, such as her Responsible Service of Alcohol course (RSA).
Samantha lives with anxiety, so the team supported her with a lot of practice interviews, so she would feel as comfortable as possible when the opportunity arose.
The team supported Samantha with food and petrol vouchers as she needed them to help her family.
Samantha was successful in landing a retail role working up to 30 hours a week.
Samantha was anxious about how she would manage work and her other commitments.
Her In-Work Support Coach, Natalie, regularly visits Samantha at her place of work to offer encouragement and support.
“Samantha has exceeded her own expectations and is thriving in her environment,” said Natalie.
“With this extra support, Samantha continues to excel. She is now assistant manager at her place of work.”
Since starting her role, she has still had a few transport issues, but atWork Australia is there to support her to ensure she can get to work successfully.
“The support I have received from atWork Australia has been amazing. They are always there to help me when I need it,” said Samantha.
Excited by her career progression; she feels confident in her ability to now provide for her family and is looking forward to a brighter future.
