Within a month of registering with atWork Australia for the second time, Phillip secured work he enjoys.
Prior to approaching atWork Australia’s Ballina Office, Phillip was unemployed for three years and had a limited work history. Phillip has a diagnosis of ADHD and he also has a great attitude about his ability to participate in the community.
Phillip has worked through a range of difficult personal circumstances while connected to atWork Australia. Phillip’s ADHD diagnosis made securing and maintaining employment challenging, due to the learning difficulties that can come with the diagnosis. When Phillip was assigned local Disability Employment Services Job Coach, Bronwyn knew that Phillip’s energetic approach to life could be a great asset for the workplace.
During Phillip’s initial period of service, he participated in work readiness sessions, giving him many opportunities to learn the basics of work and to develop his skills and knowledge. Phillip then secured work experience at the local Woolworths so he could gain some more experience and know what sort of work he enjoyed.
Soon after, Phillip was ready for the real deal and the search for the perfect role began. Phillip received support to identify opportunities and navigate job searching. In just one month, Bronwyn found a great role. Bronwyn assisted Phillip to submit an application and follow up with his employer.
Phillip was overjoyed to hear he had got the job. He was excited to gain structure back in his life and knew he would benefit from the responsibility of work. “It’s good to get out of the house and do something productive.”
Bronwyn continued to help Phillip and make sure he was happy and thriving in the role. Phillip was given financial support through the provision of work clothing and additional protective clothing required for his role. Phillip’s employers have loved having him a part of their team and are already experiencing the benefits of employing people with disability.
