Disability Employment Services client, Teena (58), had been unemployed for three years when she started working with atWork Australia.
Her self-esteem and confidence was at its lowest as she navigated personal challenges.
She began working with Job Coach Michelle, at the Victoria Park office in Western Australia.
Michelle worked with Teena to create an indivualised support plan to work with her barriers and help her achieve success.
“Teena lives with Dyslexia and had low confidence. I could see her potential if she was supported in the right nurturing environment,” said Michelle.
“Through a bit of support and encouragement we enrolled Teena into a Certificate III in Individual Disability Support. Something she thought she would be unable to do as she hadn’t studied since high school and with her Dyslexia.”
As Teena progressed through her study, she started achieving results she never thought she was capable of. This increased her confidence and she reached out to a previous employer, BBQ Joes, for work.
BBQ Joes employed Teena in a management position, and now when vacancies arrive, she calls atWork Australia to provide an opportunity to other clients.
“Teena has employed three Disability Employment Services clients since starting in her management role,” said Michelle.
“BBQ Joes have said they have enjoyed the additional support from our In-Work Support team, Job Coaches and Wage subsidies since working with us.”
“Michelle helped me to increase my confidence and self-belief in my abilities again. I am now achieving great things in my employment and have also employed other atWork Australia clients in suitable vacancies,” said Teena.
“Maintaining employment and success with study has increased Teena’s confidence and her ability to maintain strength when dealing with adversity,” said Michelle.
