Good news from atWork Australia.

Family and community are important to Indigenous woman, Teneishia. At 23 years old, she had recently moved from South Australia to Moolap in Victoria to look after her ageing Nanna.

She started working with Job Coach, Preet, having never had paid employment before.

“Teneishia had little motivation and lacked confidence in herself when we first met,” said Preet.

“She hadn’t spent much time thinking about her future in employment.”

Preet referred Teneishia into atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program. The program aims to build resilience, motivation, and confidence. During the weeklong program, Teneishia heard other’s stories, as well as learning the basics of job searching and what to expect from employment.

After completing the program, Teneishia started to become more motivated and expressed to Preet she wanted to learn more about finances, a topic briefly discussed in the Jobs for the Mob program.

Preet encouraged Teneishia to then complete another short program to help her learn more about money management. She became excited she could take those learnings back to her family.

“Finance, savings or budgeting was never discussed with me when I was growing up. Now, I feel more confident and in control of finances. Now I can share my learning with my siblings and Father.”

This led Teneishia to become more motivated towards finding work and she was ready to start looking for employment.

Together, Preet and Teneishia built her first tailored resume. She was also taught how to job search and use the Workforce Australia app to upload her job searches.

“It is so great to see Teneishia start to explore new opportunities to further support herself and her family in the future,” said Preet.

Teneishia has recently signed up to complete a visual art course at her local Tafe. atWork Australia looks forward to seeing what she can achieve and will continue to support Teneishia on her journey to employment.
