Disability Employment Services client, Geoffery, is thankful he has been given the chance to work again after spending the past four years out of the workforce.
To achieve his employment goals, he entered the atWork Australia office in Wollongong, NSW, to receive the expert service from Job Coach, Amy, and the team.
Geoffery lives with a heart condition and has found it hard to find a position, that he both loves and that caters to his health condition, without support. With no driver’s licence, it also adds an extra layer of complexity to him gaining employment.
In his first session with Amy, he outlined his employment past and skills, all whilst showing his motivations to enter the workforce. This marked the start of their short journey together.
As a result of his eagerness to enter the workforce, Geoffery presented Amy with a variety of different employers he would like to work for within the local area. With this list in her hand, Amy began to contact everyone on this list.
After chatting to these employers about Geoffery, his skills and his condition, she was successful in landing him a position as a Process Worker.
To ensure that he was ready for the interview, in their next appointment together, the pair discussed interview techniques. He later nailed the interview and thanked Amy for her support.
Within this next phase of his journey, Amy was able to financially support him in purchasing everything he needed to begin work.
Work has changed Geoffery’s life. It has not only given him financial independence, but it has also made a positive impact on his mental health. Geoffery states,
“I am wrapped and very happy to be working. It is like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. I am thankful someone has given me this opportunity.”
