Linten, from Diamond Creek in Victoria, is a double amputee, a result of a severe burn to 50% of his body. After trying to find work unsuccessfully, his mother recommended he reach out to atWork Australia.
At the Bundoora office, the 49-year-old was introduced to Disability Employment Services Job Coach Mark, who was eager to find Linten employment after seeing the potential in him from their very first catch-up.
Mark worked tirelessly to support Linten on his search for employment. They worked together to find out what his primary skills are, what relevant experience he has and what his main interests are. Once a plan of action was made, Linten started applying for a range of jobs.
Despite being rejected by a number of employers, both Linten and Mark showed a fiery determination to achieve Linten’s employment goals. Before long, Linten was offered an interview as a Warehouse Cleaner at Bunnings.
Mark supported him in the build-up to the interview, helping him carry out research on the role and the company, along with conducting mock interviews, making sure he was fully prepared. Despite being nervous, Linten aced his interview and was soon offered the job.
Since starting his new role in July 2022, Linten has gone from strength to strength, impressing his employers every step of the way. He has even recently received a performance bonus from his employers.
Looking back on his journey to find employment, Linten highlighted the support Mark, and the whole atWork Australia team, gave him.
Linten said: “Mark was great. We tried numerous positions, and I had many knockbacks. Mark was as persistent as I was to get a job. I finally landed a position which I am very grateful for. I’d like to thank Mark and everyone from atWork. They have been a great help.”
Describing how proud he felt to be a part of Linten’s journey, Mark said: “Linten was a pleasure to work with, and he also has an infectious laugh! I was proud to have been a part of his journey, and I couldn’t be happier now that he’s settled into his new role. His employer is over the moon with his attitude and his work.”
