Workforce Australia client, Belinda, had been out of work for nine months looking after her young child. She was now ready to return to employment.
When she met with Job Coach, Nicole, at the atWork Australia site in Merredin, Western Australia, she was frustrated she wasn’t hearing back from employers.
Belinda had limited work skills and qualifications, and she wasn’t standing out to employers. The team could see this was affecting her motivation and self-confidence so referred Belinda to our Wellness team for support with her health and wellbeing.
The team was flexible with Belinda in regard to her requirements and appointments, especially after she experienced some sad news in her personal life.
Job Coach, Nicole, worked with Belinda to highlight her strengths and abilities in her resume, while talking about what industries she was interested in so they could look at upskilling and qualifications.
Belinda was enrolled in a Certificate III in Hospitality while she continued to search for work.
Nicole, along with the employer engagement team, continued to refer Belinda to employment opportunities, and still she was finding she wasn’t hearing back from any employers.
The atWork Australia team encouraged Belinda to never give up, and to keep working on her qualification in the meantime.
“The journey has been quite rocky at times as the client was very frustrated with her progress and inability to find work. Now, she has completed her qualification in hospitality, she has gained the confidence in herself to find work. Belinda is always coming in smiling and happy,” said Nicole.
Belinda found work in a kitchen, however, not long into her new role, the business closed.
But this time, Belinda was feeling more confident and approached a local café to complete her work placement as part of her qualification.
The café was so impressed with her work, they offered her a role.
“Support from atWork Australia has meant that she was able to upskill and find sustainable long-term employment that she loves doing,” said Nicole.
“Gaining my Certificate III in Hospitality has opened so many doors for me now!” said Belinda.
