Good news from atWork Australia.

Workforce Australia client, Vicki, came to atWork Australia’s Invermay office in Launceston, Tasmania, to get tailored support to find employment.

When Vicki connected with atWork Australia, she was managing multiple health conditions and she was the principal career to her young child. Vicki had casual work as a cleaner, but was experiencing under employment, which was causing her financial hardship.

Soon after commencing with atWork Australia, Vikki’s Job Coach, Nicole, put her forward for a vacancy and Vicki secured a position as a Cleaner. Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, Vicki’s employment ceased. This caused Vicki a lot of frustration, as it was sudden and unexpected. To add further strain to Vicki’s situation, she had an accident, resulting in a dislocated shoulder. This now delayed her return to the workplace.

In the meantime, while Vicki was recovering from her injury, Nicole supported Vicki to enroll in a Certificate III in Individual Support, to try and boost her motivation, keep her engaged and develop her skills and qualifications through the recovery period.

Nicole also provided Vicki with food vouchers to support her through the challenging time while she could not be working. atWork Australia were able to provide funding for interview clothes and to obtain a police check, so Vicki was prepared for when she could return to work.

Eventually, Vicki was ready to return to work. However, she was finding it difficult to secure a position due to her ongoing medical conditions related to her heart. Nicole referred Vicki to atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement team.

With all hands-on deck, the atWork Australia team were able to secure Vicki a new position with Reflection Cleaning, working fifteen hours a week. Vicki’s Job Coach, Nicole, said, ‘Vicki was very happy to have some financial security.”

Vicki’s story demonstrates that with hard work and perseverance she was able to achieve her employment goals.

“I am so proud of Vicki; she has come such a long way since coming to atWork Australia. She was determined to overcome her barriers to find employment,” said Nicole
