Workforce Australia client, Cody (27), had a goal to work in the wine industry. With many vineyards in the Northern Tasmania region where Cody lived, this industry had many good local opportunities.
As Cody was sharing this goal with his Job Coach, Anna, at the atWork Australia Ravenswood office, he also shared the reason he hadn’t actively pursued this dream was because he didn’t have one key requirement – his driver’s licence.
“Cody has a passion for working outdoors, and enjoys working in the wine industry,” said Anna.
“So, we helped Cody to overcome his biggest barrier, and worked with him to gain his driver’s licence.”
Anna connected Cody with local driving lessons through RACT, financially paying for the lessons, to support Cody to build-up his learner driving hours.
While Cody was working on building his driving hours, the atWork Australia team supported him to upskill with new qualifications, such as his white card, forklift ticket, first aid certificate and police check. All qualifications that would be highly regarded in the industry.
The team also helped Cody prepare his resume for the wine industry with a tailored cover letter and with his new qualifications added.
When he had reached the required driving hours on his learners, the atWork Australia team financially supported him to sit his driving test.
“When Cody came into the office after his driving test, we could all see that he had passed due to the smile on his face,” said Anna.
“Cody’s big smile was oozing confidence.”
Anna and the local Employer Engagement team then started to call around to local employers for Cody and had him lined up for two interviews.
Both employers were really impressed with Cody, allowing him to choose between the roles. Cody chose a role which had more outdoor work in line with his passion.
