Laiane moved to Australia from Brazil ten years ago, however, she spent the first few years going back-and-forth. Now, Laiane has been settled in Western Australia for the past five years.
When Laiane first came to atWork Australia in July 2021 for ParentsNext services, she had been unemployed for five years, while she was busy raising her two children. Laiane had been working hard to overcome her barriers, which included language, low literacy and numeracy skills, and not having a Drivers Licence.
When Laiane met her Job Coach, Liliana, they mapped out a plan for how Laiane could achieve her employment goals of being an Early Childhood Educator. atWork Australia assisted Laiane to find the right course and provided funding so she could enroll and complete a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Liliana was able to assist Laiane to source a refurbished laptop, which she could use for her studies. atWork Australia also provided support through work clothing and funding for driving lessons with the goal of obtaining her licence.
While Laiane was completing her studies, she continued working with her Job Coach, Liliana, to develop a resume and improve her interview skills.
However, while completing her placement as part of the course, the host employer was so impressed they offered her a job because of her personality, great work ethic and knowing how to deal with children.
Laiane’s Job Coach said, “Laiane has shown great determination to reach her goals of being a Childcare Educator, studied very hard, would come to the office to scan her assignment and I could see the neat and methodical work she did”.
To top off this wonderful story, Laiane is now working where her child goes to kindergarten and is nearby to where she lives. Laiane said, “I appreciate the support, guidance and assistance given to me by ParentsNext”.
