Building the client’s confidence is often the most important task of a Job Coach. Living with a mental health condition or being long-term unemployed can often cause uncertainty about future employability.

Hayley, 36, has previously worked in mining, finance and the hospitality industry but has been unemployed for the past three years. Hayley lives with a mental health condition and Lyme disease which causes aching joints and muscles as well as fatigue. Due to her health condition, Hayley was unable to continue working in her previous role. This led to low confidence and uncertainty of how her future would look like.

Hayley realised that she required additional support and registered with the atWork Australia office in Joondalup, WA, where she met her Job Coach Telia.

Telia assisted Hayley with updating her resume and getting her job-ready. Part of being job-ready was building Hayley’s self-assurance and making her feel confident in walking up to employers, passing on her resume and asking for a job.

Hayley was very motivated to return to the workforce. She attended every appointment with her Job Coach, participated in Jobs Now sessions and always handed in her job searches in a timely manner. Telia would check in with Hayley on a regular basis and ask her if there was any employer Hayley should follow up on.

Telia says: “It’s important to be patient with our clients and listen well to what they feel as this shows us how to best work with them.”

One day, Hayley dressed in her best professional wear and walked into a local café and asked the manager whether they had any positions available. After looking at her resume and a quick interview, the café owner offered her a job trial as a waitress. Hayley was over the moon and reached out straight away to her Job Coach with the exciting news.

After her work trial, Hayley was offered a permanent position as a waitress. atWork Australia assisted Hayley with work clothes prior to starting her new role.

Hayley appreciated that her Job Coach was checking in regularly and says: “I am very happy at work now and I would like to thank my Job Coach Telia and Jobs Now Consultant Joanne for all the patience with my resume and building up my confidence.”

Every year, atWork Australia helps thousands of clients like Hayley expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
