Roger came to atWork Australia after being unemployed for more than 10 years. He had low motivation and no real desire to return to work. However, with the support of his Job Coach, Roger has completely changed his approach to employment and has recently celebrated his one-year work anniversary.
When Roger met his Job Coach, Aysel, at the Disability Employment Services office in Guildford, NSW, he had a limited employment history, lived with chronic pain, had low motivation, and he had no clear employment goals. However, through one-on-one coaching, mentoring and support from his Job Coach, Aysel, Roger’s attitude quickly turned around and he found a job that changed his outlook on work and life.
Roger didn’t secure his dream job by chance. It took time, effort and courage to keep moving forward when things didn’t exactly go his way. Roger and Aysel, practiced mock interviews to build Roger’s confidence, enabling him to talk about his skills and abilities with potential employers. Aysel updated Roger’s resume and the pair visited local businesses to discuss various opportunities and give Roger a chance to meet employers face-to-face.
During Roger’s journey with atWork Australia, he completed multiple work trials in various positions and industries. Unfortunately, these positions were not a good fit for Roger due to his health conditions. Roger didn’t let this deter him; he continued the search and was eager to find suitable employment.
Roger has shown that hard work does pay off, as he has now secured a position he loves with Inhanced Technologies.
In preparation to start work, atWork Australia supported Roger with fuel vouchers, as well as purchasing work boots and uniforms so he was ready to hit the ground running. Since starting his new job, Roger’s confidence continues to grow and he is grateful he can better provide for his family. Roger’s Job Coach, Aysel, said, “Roger’s attitude has changed drastically.
