At 24 years old, Disability Employment Services client, Xanita, was ready to start building her career.
She was looking for guidance when she started working with her Job Coach, Sarah, at the Noarlunga, South Australia, atWork Australia office.
Living with mental health challenges, hearing loss and asthma, Xanita wanted support and guidance on employment opportunities that would work for her.
After speaking with the atWork Australia team, she felt her passions lay in working with children.
“We set some short-term and long-term goals with Xanita. She is eager to go to work and is excited about her future career, and building her skills in the childcare industry,” said Sarah.
The first goal was to help Xanita obtain the paperwork she needed, such as a Police Check, getting her Birth Certificate and her Blue Card.
The atWork Australia team then marketed her to potential employers and she was successful gaining a paid traineeship in childcare, earning, and learning at the same time, which was important to Xanita.
The team then supported her to prepare for the interview with new clothing and interview practice.
Xanita was successful at the interview and is excited to start her career journey.
