Jessica came to atWork Australia as a young jobseeker, having been unemployed since 2015, when she had moved to the area from further south of NSW. Jessica came with three years of work experience at the local McDonald’s restaurant, which she gained prior to moving to Nowra.
When Jessica met her Job Coach Fiona, she was keen and ready to get back to work. She attended groups with other jobseekers, who were also ready for work, and she partook in extensive job searching.
Fiona then came to the idea that Jessica could complete a Youth Jobs PaTH Internship, based on her age, to prepare her for the next job. Fiona connected Jessica with a local fish and chips shop, DJ Fish & Chips, who has been in the area for many years.
Jessica’s internship went very well, and she was offered paid employment at DJ Fish & Chips, which she has now started. Her manager, Laure, is very happy with Jessica’s work, and with working with atWork Australia in general. “I’m grateful that atWork Australia has found me two good, honest and reliable employees,” Laure said.
Jessica is also pleased with herself, having found work after three years of unemployment. Not having a job and living in a new town wasn’t easy for Jessica. Now Jessica is able to save for her wedding, and live the kind of life she wants to live, thanks to having a job. “For a while there I was disappointed I couldn’t get work, now I am really happy,” Jessica said.
Fiona, Jessica’s Job Coach is very happy with the result, “This was a great chance to use the PaTH Internship program, for a great outcome,” Fiona said.
Another jobseeker placed into good, local work, and another local business accessing the full talent pool.
