Diedri (56) lives in Kendenup in Mount Barker, a small town of the Great Southern Wheatbelt, Western Australia.
There are limited job opportunities in the small town, so when Diedri found herself without work in the industry she was experienced in, she wasn’t sure what options she had left.
She started working with the atWork Australia team; Taeleisha and Tipheny, and expressed she had been looking for work but didn’t have the right qualifications.
At 56 years old, Diedri was open to studying something new but also needed to be working at the same time.
“We discussed Diedri completing a Certificate III in Community Services and encouraged her to apply for roles regardless of if she had finished her study or not,” said Taeleisha.
While Diedri was studying, the atWork Australia team also helped her update her resume and applied for an NDIS check.
The team kept their eye out for any roles that would suit Diedri, and she was soon successful in securing an Individual Support Worker role; helping those in Aged Care with day-to-day tasks.
“Once she had been offered and accepted for the part-time position, she was very grateful for all the assistance provided to her,” said Taeleisha.
“She now has a part-time position in the industry while she finishes her qualification.”
