Quote reads “I’m so grateful for the Jobs for the Mob program. I didn’t think I would gain so much knowledge, motivation, and so many skills to become a volunteer and gain a full-time position." said Loran from Riverwood New South Wales

26-year-old Indigenous client, Loran, found atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program to be a great first step on her journey to employment.

Loran attended Jobs for the Mob at her local atWork Australia office in Riverwood, New South Wales, and during the program she learnt about SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound) goals.

Her long-term goal was to work with Indigenous youth through youth social work, but when she broke this down into smaller goals, she realised she first needed identification.

Her Job Coach, Eman, supported Loran to replace her Medicare Card, obtain a photo ID and a working with children check.

After achieving these first goals, Loran felt really motivated. So, using another skill she learnt during Jobs for the Mob – cold calling – she rang her local church and secured a volunteer position for youth work.

The volunteer position would give her valuable skills she needed to pursue her long-term goal.

“After completing Jobs for the Mob, Loran now believes in herself and is now more confident,” said Job Coach, Eman.

“Completing milestones and overcoming barriers has helped Loran’s attitude towards her work and her future goals to help Indigenous youth.”

During Jobs for the Mob, Loran was also introduced to atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement team member, Raymond.

Raymond connected Loran with a pick packer job in her local area. Again, using the interviewing techniques she recently learnt in the program, Loran was successful in her interview.

She is now working full time while continuing to study in her free time to complete her youth worker course.

“Loran found the support from her Job Coach and her facilitator to be extremely valuable in regard to building her confidence and motivating her into stepping out of her comfort zone.”

“I’m so grateful for the Jobs for the Mob program. I didn’t think I would gain so much knowledge, motivation, and so many skills to become a volunteer and gain a full-time position. No one has ever helped me the way atWork Australia has,” said Loran.
