Maria has lived in various countries around the world; she was born in Argentina and spent most of her life there, while also living in Australia and the United Kingdom throughout her childhood. As an adult, Maria has now returned to Australia and has decided to call Perth, WA, home.
Although Maria is bilingual, she speaks with a strong accent and has faced some language and cultural barriers since being back in Australia, which has made it difficult to secure employment. Additionally, like many others, Maria has been impacted by the housing crisis and has found it difficult to find suitable accommodation in Perth. In order to overcome these barriers, and to start living the life she had dreamed about in Perth, Maria came to atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia office in Perth North to get tailored support on her employment journey.
When Maria met her Job Coach, Camila, she was very shy, but had a positive attitude towards work. Maria explained to her Job Coach that she needed some support to overcome her anxiety and some guidance when applying for jobs and preparing for interviews.
To help Maria learn how to manage her anxiety, Camila referred her to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services. Our wellness professionals empower clients to prioritise their overall health and wellbeing. These one-on-one sessions support clients to work through different circumstances, and progress towards employment.
Additionally, Maria participated in atWork Australia’s Money Minded program, which teaches people the skills and knowledge to better manage their personal finances.
atWork Australia were able to provide funding for Maria to purchase new interview clothes, so she could pursue new opportunities feeling confident and putting her best foot forward. Throughout the entire process, Maria kept a positive attitude and was eventually rewarded for her efforts.
Maria has now secured a full-time position as a Receptionist with a real estate company. She is very excited to start work and to have opportunities to progress in her career. Maria’s Job Coach, Camila, said, “It was a pleasure working with Maria. She was eager, put a lot of effort into finding work and I have no doubt she will succeed.”
