Good news from atWork Australia.

Punchbowl local, Jun Jun, has been out of the workforce for several years. After leaving her most recent position, due to family commitments, her confidence levels were at an all-time low. She needed assistance to get her where she wants to be – in employment.

After meeting with her Job Coach, Amal, in the Punchbowl office, he recommended her to complete the in-house Powered by Positivum course to build her confidence.

Our Positivum course assists clients in developing positive thinking, beliefs about health, thoughts about working, and the ability to get a job, as well as learning stress management skills. Throughout the duration of the course, she was encouraged to participate in all group discussions to further build her confidence.

Jun Jun proved to be a great asset to the group, she assisted other Chinese participants by translating course material to Chinese where needed. This was a great skill that she could also apply in her future job.

She completed Positivium whilst regularly attending her scheduled appointments with Amal, where they spent time updating her resume and cover letter to reflect her skills, history and goals. The pair also spent time developing Jun Jun’s computer skills; to assist in her ability to search and apply for positions, both in the office and at home.

Jun Jun understood that all of these tasks would not only build her confidence, but were ‘stepping stones’ that would lead her to a larger goal – employment.

Once she felt like she was ready, she began to job search and put all her new-found skills into play.

After a successful interview with a local health clinic, Jun Jun was offered a position as a full-time Office Administrator. With employment history in this sector, she was ecstatic.

After several weeks in this position, Jun Jun believes that work has not only improved her mental state but her physical health too. Employment has assisted her with her routine and structure; financial security; and it also is a large contributor towards mental wellbeing; providing a sense of self and purpose.

Amal and the Punchbowl atWork Australia team continue to work with Jun Jun to ensure that she remains happy and confident in her position.

“The future is not something we can predict; it is all about how we put efforts and strive for success.” – Jun Jun, Workforce Australia Client, NSW.
